Meet Melanie Barnes

Song Partners is proud to introduce Melanie Barnes

Melanie writes:

"Upon traveling to the Rockies, and later settling in Colorado, glimmering glimpses of old wooden ski nuanced its way through the 50's and 60's.  Silver haired miners were still walking the streets telling their stories and singing their authentic Colorado songs.

After recording a collection of vintage songs, which can be heard on cdbaby.com, I realized that my own town of Boulder did not have a song describing its own pristine beauty.  It is an oh, so colorful Colorado, even in its traditional "painted lady."

This song is a reflection of my memories of the scenery around Boulder.  On a quiet day in the mountains, you can hear the forest praying and the falling water of Boulder Falls.  There really is a Silvery Colorado, which is the Colorado River.  The Zephyr is a train, which cuts its way to the western sea, California's Pacific Ocean.  Some people do find their faith in God's country, especially in the spirit of the mountains where eagles call.

These beautiful photos of Boulder were taken by mountain climber Trevor Ackerman, which depict the outback areas and front door to the Rockies.

And oh!  The Flatirons really do turn golden in the Fall.  Come see for yourself!"

Song Partners is happy to introduce Melanie to our Artist Showcase.

You Must Come to Colorado

By Melanie Barnes

You must come to Colorado

You must climb the purple mountain

You must hear the eagle calling from above,

You must hear the forest prayin'

You must hear the fallin' water

As the silvery Colorado wends its way

Come on down to Boulder Valley

See the Flatirons turnin' golden

Down below the deer is grazin' in the field

You must come to Colorado

You must see the prairie ponies

Where the zephyr cuts its way to the Western Sea

(Chorus)

You must come to the snowy country

You must ski it all in its glory

See God’s country that we praise

You must come to Colorado

Feel the spirit of the mountains

To us all who feel its blessed majesty

Hear the harmony of the angels

And the crystal quartz convergence

As they hover near to hear God’s mystic tune

You must come to Colorado

You must see the prairie ponies

Where the zephyr cut its way to the western sea

Chorus

You must come to Colorado

You must climb the purple mountain

You must hear the eagle calling from above,

You must hear the forest prayin'

You must hear the fallen water

As the silvery Colorado winds its way

You must come to Colorado
